Why You Need Multiple Chiropractic Visits

Many people are told that they need to see a chiropractor multiple times. Recently Dr. Redwood published an article that looks at the different dose-response research for chiropractic, meaning how many visits does research show that you need. Research shows that 12 visits yielded the most favorable results for patients with low back pain.

So why so many visits?

A chiropractor needs multiple visits, because the treatment is finding the root cause of your pain and then retraining your body to work optimally. Chiropractors look at the entire body including the spine, joints, nerves, and muscles; along with how these structures work together. When you go to the gym it takes multiple gym sessions to get into shape and build muscle, after a few weeks or months at the gym you start to notice a change in your body shape. The same thing is happening with your chiropractic treatment, each session is helping to retrain your body (muscles, joints, spine, etc) to move and function optimally.

Also think about how often you have to take pain relievers to provide relief. Sometime people are taking pills 3 times a day for weeks. These pills change the biochemistry inside your body and mask the pain, but they are not fixing the problem. We can help you figure out what is going on, why it started, and how to stop it.

How the 12 visits can save money

An appointment at our office averages $50 a visit (we do take insurance and Medicare). 12 visits at this price will cost you $600 for your treatment. Back surgery can cost you thousands of dollars with insurance and between $50,000- $150,000 without insurance.

Why Do Home Exercises?

You need to brush and floss your teeth everyday to keep them clean and healthy. If you stop brushing and flossing you will need multiple visits to repair the damage done to the teeth. When a chiropractor gives you exercises and stretches to do at home these are to help keep your body working efficiently. Like your teeth, your spine can degenerate, and when your spine degenerates it causes issues with the nerves that exit the spine. These issues can range from degenerative disc disease to sciatica to spinal stenosis. If you do your exercises and stretches you will keep your spine healthy. Doing them daily is just like brushing your teeth daily.
